    An expert-guided series for expecting parents coordinated by Chicago Family Doulas hosted by Monica + Andy.

    Saturdays

    9:30–10:30am

    $100/8-week series or $15/class drop-in (please see other listing for drop-in classes)

    We are excited to host you Saturday mornings for the next 8 weeks to learn from local experts. This hour includes a discussion, a time for Q+A, and a chance to connect with other expecting families.

    • Week 1: 1/14/23 Learn about doulas, coping skills, and how your partner and doula can form the perfect support team with Bryn Rose from Chicago Family Doulas 
    • Week 2: 1/21/23 Jen Jaume, CNM and Director of Midwifery, from Birth Center of Chicago will be discussing evidence-based, family-centered, Community Midwifery Care. She is committed to serving all families seeking intimate, patient-led, empowered birth experiences
    • Week 3: 1/28/23 The perinatal period, or the time leading up to and following labor and delivery, is often hallmarked by uncertainty. Join Eden Himidian, LCSW, RYT, PMH-C, from Wildflower Counseling, to demystify psychotherapy for the expecting and new parent 
    • Week 4: 2/4/23 Dr. Megan Thompson, D.C. from Division Chiropractic and Alchemy Acupuncture and Herbs, will be discussing the benefits of chiropractic care, acupuncture, and massage during all stages of pregnancy and postpartum. Dr. Thompson has a passion for prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric care 
    • Week 5: 2/11/23 Join Claire Kelly PT, DPT and Gabriela Fisch, PT, DPT, OCS from Centre Physical Therapy, as they chat about the integral role our pelvic floor plays in our daily routine. Claire and Gabi specialize in women’s health including pelvic pain, pre/post natal discomfort, and urinary incontinence/urgency
    • Week 6: 2/18/23 Join Joan Kessler RN, IBCLC, from Lactation Partners, for a presentation and discussion of breastfeeding your newborn in the early days and weeks. Learn the basics of getting your breastfeeding relationship off to a strong start, and how to navigate common challenges often faced in the first days and weeks of nursing your precious baby  
    • Week 7: 2/25/23 In this discussion, we will review beneficial activities and positions to encourage motor development. Melissa Fuentes, PT, DPT, CSCS from Skip and Scoot, will identify various motor milestones to look for during your baby's earliest months, as well as discuss age appropriate toys and equipment to promote musculoskeletal health and sensory development 
    • Week 8: 3/4/23 Helping your baby and yourself get the best possible sleep from the beginning is incredibly important. Deb Pocica, from Birth, Before and After, has been a doula for 15 years, and has worked full time with families as a certified sleep consultant

    Taught by American Red Cross Instructors, this in-person class will teach you the basics of pediatric breathing emergencies, airway obstructions, basic First Aid and how to perform CPR & use an AED, followed by a Q&A.
